The Albert Pujols Fun Facts

While I was out looking for some fun facts today, I came to the realization that Albert Pujols is really good. Well I knew before my research today that hes was pretty special, but its always fun to look at just how good he really is. So here you go here is a list full of some great Albert Pujols Fun Facts.

Albert Pujols currently leads the majors with 27 walks. He has only seven strikeouts so far this year, thats 30 less than Ryan Howard. That ranks him 260th in the league for most strike outs. That also gives him a 3.86 walk to strike ratio by far tops in the league. The only real comparison I can give is with Barry Bonds. Bonds career walk to strikeout ratio is 1.66 to Pujols 1.35. That number will likely only rise given that pitcher seem more and more willing to just issue Pujols a free pass instead of risking him taking them deep.

Pujols career slugging percentage is .620, a number that puts him fourth all time. While most power hitters rack up the strike outs Pujols has never had a 100 strikeout year. Of the top 10 slugging percentage leaders last year only Pujols and Magglio Ordonez had less than 100 strikeouts.

Not only can Pujols hit but he has developed one heck of a glove at first. There are a few different systems to rate defense. The first one I will go over is the plus/minus system that is used heavily in the fielding bible awards. Its a interesting system that baseball guru Bill James has made vary popular.  Pujols leads all first basemen from 2005-07 with a plus 72, thats 41 ahead of second place.  Only Adam Everett has a higher plus rating at any position.  Range Factor another Bill James defensive stat has Pujols rated first three of the last five years.

Maybe the most amazing thing about Pujols is that he has accomplished all this at only 28.  If it wasn’t for Barry Bonds he could be a four time MVP just entering his prime!  Alex Rodriguez at 4382 at bats into his career had 298 home runs.  Pujols who has only 4139 career at bats, already has 287 home runs.  I think its fair to say that Albert Pujols guy is pretty good.
